Our Providence:

"Our Providence" is the final project for the class URBN 1871A Heritage in the Metropolis: Remembering and Preserving the Urban Past offered by Prof. Yapp at Brown University. It explores the local heritage of Providence, its history,  and aims to deliver it to a wider audience.

"Mapping Asian Grocery Stores in Providence, RI" reflects my personal interest in cultural food, grocery shops, and how they tie to immigrant experiences and memories. The purpose of this project is to give you more information on these grocery stores, the family histories behind them, and offer you the opportunity to learn a slice of them before visiting the stores.

Call For Action

As multiple shop owners have mentioned in the interviews, the impact of the Pandemic has prompted many consumers to transition to online shopping, thereby undermining the vitality of these local small businesses.

We believe that in-store shopping is fundamentally different from online shopping as it offers the opportunity to "shop the experience" with your beloved ones, getting submerged in the material culture and unique histories of these stores.
