History of the Store
Not far from all the other Asian stores in the Cranston area and relatively closer to Providence, Good Fortune Supermarket is relatively newly established in 2012. Unlike the other family stores, Good Fortune is a supermarket chain with 5 other locations on the East Coast and headquarter in New York. A distinctive physical characteristic of Good Fortune stores is their enormous size, which is comparable to that of warehouses. Operating in a way similar to large supermarket chains on the West Coast while situating in an area without a large Asian population, it interestingly gets a lot of non-Asian customers who are impressed by the extremely low prices for the produce.
Bearing a Chinese name and having the setting extremely similar to large Chinese supermarkets in mainland China, the store offers a huge variety of goods from origins all across East Asia and Southeast Asia. It is also the Asian supermarket most known to the college students in Providence while most of them do not really look for the other small family stores. Recently, it has expanded its offerings to include a variety of American products, even featuring the yogurt brand Chobani.
